Tesla Stock Dips as OpenAI Enters Humanoid Robotics Race
Tesla shares fell 3.57% to $420.23 Monday following OpenAI's announcement of a dedicated robotics division. The move positions Sam Altman's firm in direct competition with Tesla's Optimus program, which recently converted Model S/X production lines for robot manufacturing.
OpenAI Robotics will focus on developing humanoid robots for infrastructure labor before targeting consumer markets. Tesla counters with its Optimus Gen 3 reveal slated for late July, coinciding with Fremont factory retooling for 1 million-unit annual capacity.
The Q1 filing revealed Tesla's $2 billion SpaceX stake as both companies collaborate on Texas chip fabrication infrastructure. Market reaction suggests investor concern about intensified competition in the emerging humanoid robotics sector.
